1.Identifying True Retention Blockers via Sentiment Analysis

A people analytics team struggled to distinguish between common complaints and actual drivers of severe dissatisfaction, previously allocating resources based on raw complaint volume. To solve this, they plotted a pulse check survey theme map comparing the frequency of mentions against the rating drag. The analysis revealed that while work/life balance was frequently mentioned (16%), it had a minimal rating drag of 0.1. Conversely, leadership and management issues appeared in nearly 30% of negative comments with a severe rating drag of 0.95. This visualization proved to HR leadership that retention investments needed to target leadership issues rather than loud but low-impact grievances.
What it shows:
Prioritize HR interventions based on the impact of an issue on overall satisfaction, not just the frequency of the complaint.
